12-14-12 is a day of many events, both tragic and joyous. This performance was overshadowed by the outrage of the events in Newtown, CT. The song selection and commentary echo the cries of the innocents that were lost. But, as I have come to understand this life’s idiosyncrasies, all things come with balance. With each yin there is a yang, and as a cold hard rain falls, a spring flower grows. And so was this day, too. So to focus on the positive, I dedicate this set of images and recording to Ruby Soo Foelske, who was born this day. Happy birthday, Ruby!
Having just returned from his tour of the volatile Middle East, this Colorado mountain tour was a simplified, stripped-down lineup of just Jerry and Jackmormons drummer, Steve Drizos. This duo was billed in the past as The Denmark Veseys, and even released an album under then name, too. Despite no official nod to the title, the Jackmormon loyalists called it just that. This show was high energy and emotion fueled, despite Jerry making a trip to the ER earlier in the day with heart attack symptoms, later determined to be altitude sickness. His ferocious stage presence and musical chops never cease to amaze me. The guitar work and cohesive playing with Drizos are incredible, even when not feeling well. In one word this performance was passionate!
