North Mississippi Allstars have been steadily pulling in larger crowds to bigger venues since my first time seeing them here in Colorado 4 years ago. Not surprising, given the tenacious chops of brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, the sons of Memphis music legend, Jim Dickinson. Their hook is the energy and genuine happiness they bring to the stage, making what was yesterday’s style in southern guitar rock, a fresh new vibe that is infectious…it hits ya deep down in your soul and forces you to shake what your mama gave ya. The Allstars normally consist of the Dickinson brothers and master bass player Chris Chew but, due to bad health, Big Chew had to miss this tour and was replaced by Lightnin’ Malcolm, temporarily, and is the bass player seen below.
This tour was billed as North Mississippi Allstars w/ Missing Cats supporting. Missing Cats are the brain child of Widespread Panic keyboard player Jojo Herman and Sherman Ewing, but for this night was completed by Luther Dickenson on bass guitar and bother Cody on drums, a real treat for the audience. To further sweeten the evening’s events, Jojo joined the Allstars for the bulk of their set too, making the whole night a massive success.
This gig was shot for the band and can be seen on their website here: http://www.nmallstars.com/ogden-theatre-denver-cophotos-by-jim-mimna-3/
