I have long been a huge fan of Anders Osborne’s art. His music draws from his life, which seasons it with a large dose of reality that the everyday listener can relate to. His body of work as a whole is a beautiful story written in the language of the common man. His failures and triumphs illustrated in his songs are a cautionary tale of both the costs and rewards of flying too close to the sun and living to tell about it. With a musical foundation so solidly built on life’s journey, Anders’ music has been in regular rotation in mine, consoling and encouraging me as I make my way. So, to say I am a fan is an understatement. Moreover, to say I was excited to work with Anders one on one is a gross distortion of my excitement. I have found no greater reward than incorporating into my art, that which inspired it.
Some days being in the right place at the right time is the key, and other days being willing to over prepare and work harder than you have to sets you up for success. This day, the combination of the two served me well. I was on location working for Rodrigo y Gabriela this day but, knowing Anders was opening the show, I was ready for any opportunity I was given to capture one of my favorite musicians. As chance would have it, I got my opportunity, and in no small part to the fact Anders is one of the nicest, down to earth people you could meet. I asked him if we could shoot a few frames using the iconic red rock that is the back of the stage, and he very kindly obliged me. To top off such a wonderful experience, I was extremely happy when the image below was a finalist in consideration for the cover of his forthcoming album, Peace.
