The New Mastersounds have a uniquely old school music personality in today’s landscape of overly compressed pop-based bands that piss in your ear via FM radio. They have a sound that is distinctly funky, grown from the seeds of New Orleanian originators of the genre, The Meters. Despite this band’s old soul being deeply rooted in southern funk, they hail from the UK, and that juxtaposition of life influence is what gives them a truly original sound.
Despite the band being on top of their game musically, they needed a fresh marketing look to push the new record, Made For Pleasure, so we teamed up to create a truly unique set of images. Because contrast is the spice of life, they were a perfect fit for my “Stills in Motion” series, giving them a classic portrait while the insanity of the world flies by them with reckless abandon. Below is the set of promotional photos that you only get through my lens.
Like with so many of my clients, The New Mastersounds had me shoot a few live shows for them too, one in New Orleans during Jazzfest and then one back here in Denver. From those live show shoots came images that are now the inside art for the vinyl and CD versions of their album, Made For Pleasure, pictured below.
